Pebble Game

$375.00

Gourd shaped vase. The brown leather-like overlay is decorated with 4 recessed areas juxtaposed with an area of protruding pearl shavings. Soft strokes of browns and white are generously coated with an iridescent, highly textured pebbled surface.

Stoneware. Fully functional.

Wheel thrown and altered. Hand carved. Application of slip and shino.

12” h x 5 1/2” w

The slightly off-kilter shape and design elements coupled with the more muted colors create a playful vessel that ultimately feels at rest. A game piece, waiting to advance.

I placed this piece in one of the areas of the chamber which typically gets the most direct flame, ash, salt, and soda during firing. It’s what we call a “high risk, high reward” spot in the kiln. The result is the heavy blanket of iridescent, pebbled pearl all along the back.

One of a kind.
