2nd Line Shake

$310.00

Vase with raw toasted brown base, highlighted by a large splash of bright turquoise. The upper half is a wash of speckled yellow, with various sized openings at the crown. The bottom and upper halves of the vase are connected by a band of icy glazed petals.

Stoneware. Fully functional.

Wheel thrown, altered and carved. Various glazes and shinos.

12”h x 6 1/2” w

Sometimes when I see a shape, I also hear a sound. This vase gave me “Trumpet”. Then I heard “rhythm section at a parade”. I heard the festive 2nd Line of New Orleans, where I sometimes spent the summers of my childhood. In that same vein of youth, its off-kilter arrangement and the drips of bright color feel analogous to a melting ice cream sundae. The assortment of openings also means that you can be playful with your arrangement of flowers, too, resulting in a celebratory sculptural statement.

One of a kind.
